The second edition of the European Parliament of Enterprises successfully concluded on 14 October 2010 in Brussels. The Hemicycle of the European Parliament was filled with hundreds of entrepreneurs coming from different countries and from the most diverse type of businesses, but with one ambition in common: to make their voice heard on some of the many important dossiers under discussion at EU level.
With their debates and votes, entrepreneurs indeed provided food for thought to policy makers in relation to the conditions in which businesses operate, the resources they require and the markets they seek to access.
Speaking in the Opening Session of the event, Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, said: "I believe this is a very useful contribution to our work. I look forward to reading your recommendations!"
Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, added: "Entrepreneurship is a driving force of Europe's economy. Your involvement in the decision-making process is indispensable for the EU."
The following sessions of debate provided a constructive exchange of views between the entrepreneurs and representatives of the European Parliament and Commission.
Concluding the proceedings, President Alessandro Barberis said: "I am grateful that Members of the European Parliament of Enterprises have taken seriously their responsibilities as the representatives of over 20 million European businesses. Now the responsibility switches to us, Chambers, to ensure that the results and messages are disseminated widely and used effectively ."
